[2] He received the National Film Award as a child artist in his father Raj Kapoor's 1970 film My Name Joker (1970). [3] Kapoor made his first lead role as an adult in 1973 with Doobie Kapadia with the movie Bobby and received the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1974.

Subsequently, he acted as a romantic lead in 92 films between 1973 and 2000, 41 of which were multi-star films.  [4] For his starring role in Donnie Chahar, he won the Best Actor Filmfare Critic Award in 2011, and for his role in Kapoor & Sons, he won the Best Supporting Actor's Filmfare Award in 2017. He was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. [5] He appeared in twelve films of 1973 and 1981 against his next wife, Nitin Singh.
